The continued spread of the SARS-Cov-2 virus has given birth to the Greek alphabet-a nomenclature used by the World Health Organization to track new mutations in the virus that cause Covid-1. Some have come up with better ways to infect the virus or avoid vaccine protection.
Scientists are concentrating on Delta, now the dominant diversity around the world is growing rapidly, but others are following to see what others are doing.

The first to be identified in India is the Delta variant. It is hitting the vaccinated population in many countries and has proven to be able to infect a higher proportion of vaccinated people than its predecessors.
The WHO classifies the Delta as a variant of concern, meaning that it has been shown to be capable of increasing infections, causing more serious diseases, or reducing vaccination and treatment facilities.
According to Shane Crowe, a virologist at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology in San Diego, Delta’s “superpower” is its contagiousness. Chinese researchers have found that delta-infected people carry 1,260 times more viruses in their noses than the original version of the coronavirus. Some studies in the United States have found that the “viral load” among delta-infected vaccinated individuals is equivalent to those not vaccinated, but more research is needed.
While the original coronavirus took up to seven days to produce symptoms, Delta can produce symptoms quickly in two to three days, giving the immune system less time to respond and defend itself. Delta seems to be doing more mutations, with reports of the “Delta Plus” variant, a sub-genus that carries an additional mutation that has been shown to avoid immune protection.
India listed Delta Plus as a variant of concern in June, but the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the WHO have not yet done so. According to Outbreak.info, an open source COVID-19 database, Delta Plus has been detected in at least 32 countries. Experts say it is not yet clear whether this is more dangerous.
Lambda – On the way?
The Lambda variant has attracted attention as a potential new threat. But this version of the coronavirus, first detected in Peru in December, could be reduced, multiple infectious disease experts told Reuters.
The WHO classifies lambda as a variant of interest, meaning it carries mutations that alter infectivity or cause more serious diseases, but it is still under investigation. Lab studies show it contains mutations that inhibit vaccine-induced antibodies.
