Netherlands Will Select Koeman for their football coach after FIFA World Cup 2022. Former Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman will take over the reins of the Netherlands from Louis van Gaal after this year’s World Cup, the Dutch Football Federation said on Wednesday.
Van Gaal announced over the weekend that he has been undergoing treatment for prostate cancer for the past two years but he still hopes to lead the team to the final, which starts in Qatar in November. Koman, 59, will be in charge of the Dutch national team for the second time after taking charge from 2018 to 2020, when he resigned to coach Barcelona.
He was sacked by the Spanish giants in October last year after 14 difficult months in charge, including Lionel Messi’s move to Paris Saint-Germain because the club was in financial crisis.
“I’m looking forward to working together again. When I left the national team a year and a half ago, it certainly wasn’t because I wasn’t happy,” Koeman said.
“We are delighted to have Ronald back next year,” said Marian van Leeuwen, director of professional football at the Dutch Federation.
“During his last term as national coach, his work and results were very satisfactory.”
Koeman Will Be Select Coach Of Netherlands After World Cup 2022
The Netherlands will play against Senegal in the opening match of the World Cup in Qatar. Also in Group A are host country and Ecuador. Ronald Koeman will take charge of the Dutch national team for the second time since this winter’s World Cup. Koeman has agreed a deal to coach the Netherlands until the 2026 World Cup in the United States.
Since the replacement of Frank de Boer in August 2021, head coach Louis van Gaal has already confirmed that he will step down after this year’s tournament, which ends on December 18. Van Gaal, the former Manchester United and Barcelona manager, announced earlier this week that he was suffering from prostate cancer. Koeman, who won 78 caps for his country as a player, previously coached the Netherlands from 2018 to 2020, Dick Advocate took charge after failing to qualify the nation for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Under Koeman, the Netherlands has successfully qualified for the 2020 European Championships. The 59-year-old, however, resigned in the summer of 2020 after being offered a coaching job at the former club Barcelona – a year before the start of the suspended Euros.
His tenure at Barcelona has not been very successful, although he has struggled financially for the club. In the Commonwealth’s first season, the Catalan giants failed to mount a credible title charge, winning just two of their last five La Liga matches to finish behind Real Madrid. Koeman was sharply criticized by fans for his pragmatic style of play, and was eventually sacked by Barcelona’s new president, Joan Laporta, in October, with the ninth club in La Liga.
In management since 2000, Koeman has significantly coached Ajax, Southampton and Everton among other clubs.
